BetterBizBooks.com
- June 2002 Newsletter
Hey there everyone!
I
hope things are going well and that each and every person has
a great summer season.
The
June 2002 newsletter points to little new content on the
website due in part to technical glitches that were incurred
and the extensive amount of reading / planning I have been
doing for "The Big Project." A sample can be
found via a link at the end of the newsletter.
I
don’t want to get into the details of what happened but
let’s just say I lost over a year’s worth of data I had
collected. Fortunately,
for the website and its future development, I knew what data I
needed and where to get it so I have recovered some 95% of the
lost writings, quotes and data I wanted to share with
everyone. Unfortunately,
the entire experience drained me of a lot of time and
opportunities to write new reports.
Friedrich Nietzsche once
said, “What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.”
Additionally, Napolean Hill has once said,
“Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries
with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”
I
think those men were pretty smart guys and those words are
great wisdom to live by. The
problems incurred are just a temporary roadblock for BetterBizBooks.com
and the website’s development in the next few months.
Now
that I have managed to ramble, despite saying I wasn’t going
to do it, “What’s new on the website?”

A
New Look to the Website!
**************************************************************************************
- Quotations
-If you liked the two quotes from above you are going to
love the quotes I plan on putting online in the next few
months. In the
month of May I put up some great economist quotes as well as
general business quotes. Each
group of quotes is going to be separated into different
groups. Click on
the link below to see what is available and what will be
online soon!
- Table
of Contents
for my U.S.
Housing Report – A few people contacted me
about the recently published report and wanted to know what
was in it so I decided to show everyone the table of contents
to the 54 page report. This
is to help people in finding out what kind of information is
in the report before they decide whether or not to download
the 3.4 Megabyte file, which can take some time on a 56k
modem.
- A
New Home Page! - I redesigned the front page so
that it will be more useful for those looking to find
something on the website.
Additionally, you can find out if I am online (if you
want to send me an instant message via yahoo messenger) since
I put a script on the webpage too!
- The month of July marked a
major month in the development of the website:

May was a horrible computer
month as my hard drive crashed...........Very little new
content was added during the month of May.

New
Book Reviews
**************************************************************************************
I
was quite disappointed with myself because I didn’t get any
book reviews written last month but I will have at least four in the July 2002 Newsletter.
In the last month I have read some interesting books
but I was quite happy about two business / economic history
books I read and I will publish my analysis in the July
newsletter.
Here
is another tidbit of information for everyone.
John Steele Gordon has a new book coming out in June
2002 and Peter Drucker has a new book in July 2002.
For those that don’t know by now I am a HUGE Peter
Drucker fan and I am anxiously awaiting his new book.
Once it is published I will let everyone know what I
think about it.

Book
of the Month
**************************************************************************************
There
was no “BetterBizBook of the Month” for June 2002 due to
an oversight on my part. The
BetterBizBook of the Month for July will be The
Essential Drucker by Peter Drucker.
On
July 1, 2002
I will post my comments / detailed analysis as to why I think
this book is truly a great work and worth reading by all.
For
those that didn't check out Mystery
of Capital by Hernando DeSoto (May 2002
suggested book) I have put my full length book review here.

I
am Currently Working on the Following:
**************************************************************************************
- TONS OF USEFUL LINKS -
I am going to post about 50 interesting links in the next
week or so. Many of these are hyperlinks to online
economic / philosophy texts but there are others I think
some people may find useful.
- Technology & Telecommunications – A Brief Glance
- July
2002 target
- Global Energy Review – Facts, Figures & Some Brief Comments
-
August
2002
- My
Philosophy/History/Economic Project - My goal is to
try and put together a report that interlinks how
countries have been affected by 17th century - present
philosophical thoughts. Rousseau and "Social
Contract", Hume on Property, Karl Marx on the
Bourgeoise, etc. The goal is to show how many of
these philosophers and economists were products of their
environment (they kept their eyes open) and then developed
thoughts / insights that changed history. I don't
anticipate having this completely done until December
2002.I have published an example of the economic
timeline I am constructing to show the
overlap and dates in which the greatest economic thinkers
lived. This is part of my "BIG PROJECT"
that I will have finished by the end of the year.
Eventually I will have another timeline for philosophy and
for political figures. I will integrate them
together at some date to be determined so that people can
click on Adam Smith and see what philosophers, politicians
and historical / technological events may have impacted
his analysis. I am going to also link the political
leaders together with the other data so that people can
see the economic, social and philosophical backdrop that
some of the world's leading political figures were
operating under. All of this is to eventually be
available in a graphical format as I am a firm believer in
the old adage "a picture is worth a thousand
words."
