Guide For Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets
By John Murphy
Prentice Hall Press, 1999 - 160 pages
This book is the accompanying self-study manual to John
Murphy's classic "Technical
Analysis of the Financial Markets." It is
a separate book from the 540 page behemoth that is used by the
technical analysis professions on Wall Street. I personally
don't have the book but I have been told that, if you read the
text you can answer most of the questions. Nonetheless, I am
an adamant believer in being goal-oriented.
If your goal is to learn technical analysis there are
several steps to improve your odds of learning:
1. Read a lot of books on technical analysis. John's book
is regarded as "The Bible" amongst market
technicians.
2. Try and see if you actually absorbed the information via
any test you can get a hold of, which this book is
specifically designed for &
3. Try to read charts and keep updated with recent
financial data to keep yourself from getting rusty.
Technical analysis doesn't go out of style as it can be
applied in any market, up or down, as it basically is a way of
analyzing the buying and selling being seen in the market in
whatever investment vehicle you choose: stocks, bonds or
commodities. The folks in commodities study technical analysis
like madmen because they can make or lose money quickly so
they are VERY aware of support and resistance levels.
This is not a paperback of one of Murphy's texts! Don't be
confused. It is a work book to test your comprehension as you
read the text.
