Recent Activities:
In January 2003 I
began working as a financial Analyst II for LandSafe Inc, a
subsidiary of Countrywide Financial Corporation, (NYSE: CFC)
the third largest mortgage company in the U.S. My job is to
take the financial/operational data from the accountants and
business units and look for ways to improve productivity, reduce
costs or pursue new growth strategies. My primary activity is
helping the business managers better understand their costs through
activity based cost accounting and learning the business units from
top to bottom. To date I have found this job very self fulfilling
because my ideas and questions about the business lead to results
that are measurable and impact the profitability of the company. I
found this job after moving to Dallas in October 2002. For the
record, I found my job posted online and the job search, from start
to finish, took eight weeks. During my eight weeks interviews
with companies and headhunters averaged at least three to five a
week.
At the end of April 2001 I amicably parted with my
employer as I found the investment industry wasn't what I hoped it
would be. At that
time that I decided to take a personal sabbatical since the economy
was in a downturn and I wanted to gain additional insight into
business and economic history / philosophy.
