Why I started this website:

  • “Last year, 1,778 business books were published in the U.S. alone.  Every one of them got read by someone, some by an awful lot of people. Why? Because as our world changes faster and faster and faster, knowing is just as important as having. And that makes the population ready and eager for the next ideavirus.” - Unleashing the Ideavirus by Seth Godin

  • The total of all printed knowledge doubles every four or five years. - Differentiate or Die by Jack Trout

  • More than 4,000 books are published around the world each day. - Differentiate or Die by Jack Trout

It is becoming more and more difficult for business professionals to determine which books they should read and which ones will make an impact on their career / life.

My goal is to save you time and money........because your time and money are valuable.

I want to help you find books & articles that will:

  • Advance your career
  • Increase your pay
  • Cause you to experience a paradigm shift in the way you see business &
  • Get an independent and unique view on current events and the economy.

Why you ask?

This website is an extension of my views, past, present and future.

It is a reflection on the past because of:

  1. My prior work experience (telecommunications and Wall Street) may be of value to you through the free articles / research reports I publish exclusively at BetterBizBooks.com.  Click here for my background.  I received my MBA at the age of 24 from Rice University, I have spent 3 years on Wall Street and I have worked in the telecommunications industry approximately 2 years.

  2. The formal education I have received, along with my rather insane love of books in the past year and a half, might help you find some good reading that could propel your career forward.  To put it into perspective, in the last 16 months I have read roughly 80 books, primarily in the areas of business, economics & pop culture.  I did this because I enjoy learning about business.  Many of the books I have read were recommended by senior executives in different industries.

The website is a reflection of the present:

  1. I have some interesting opinions on economic growth and development and how it impacts you in today's environment.

  2. I find business to be an applied science.  It requires measurement of results so that desired goals can be attained.  At the same time, the more you have applied the material the better you typically get at a function.

  3. I have some interesting thoughts on personal finance and development that hopefully people will listen to.

  4. This website is limited by my current skills in website design and marketing (I am trying to improve folks (really!)).

The website is a reflection on the future because:

  1. I will continue to publish research reports.  Hopefully this will occur on a monthly basis

  2. I will continue to publish short articles on current events and the economy.

  3. I will continually update the website on books I read throughout the months and years and provide links to my favorites.

  4. This website will be continually changing

This site is a two-way interactive website.

For my part, I plan to do the following:

  • I will share information about business books I find of interest / no help via my book reviews. I only post recommendations / reviews of books I have personally read but I will note other books (such as you) that people have recommended.  The books I note are informative and timely and hopefully will enable you to propel your career forward and attain the noted goals above.  In 2001 I read over 50 business books alone, many of them suggested to me by friends and business associates.

  • I publish a FREE monthly newsletter where I inform everyone of the new content (new books reviewed, new articles written, etc) on the website.  If you are interested in signing up for the newsletter click here.  As always, your Privacy is GUARANTEED. Your name will not be sold or traded to anyone!

  • I will write original articles/thoughts (3 a month minimum) on current events that will be socio-economic in nature.  What is the impact of an event to our legal system, way of life, etc?

  • Once a month I will pick a business book and WE (a two-way interaction folks!) will discuss the book's implication in the current and future global business environment.  If you are interested in signing up for the BetterBizBookclub click here.  I chose to have it powered by Yahoo Groups to facilitate better group interaction and because I am not a programmer!

In conclusion, I hope that everyone will give me a chance to learn from you and your ideas via feedback as well as allow me to provide some insights / comments from the various things I have learned in my years of study and application.  Additionally, the yahoo group should be utilized by members to post their thoughts / questions about the current business environment.

I look forward to furthering our online relationship,

Dan Ross
